Making Connections That Matter at The Watermark at East Hill

Each day, prospective residents and families come to The Watermark at East Hill to explore their options, learn more about opportunities, and decide whether the community is the right fit for them and their family. The sales and marketing team works hard to provide a personalized experience for every guest while answering questions, providing support, and making recommendations. There is a strong sense of pride that comes along with this important part of the process and our sales professionals take their roles very seriously.

It often surprises people at the approach the team takes at The Watermark and how the sales associates are not typical by any means. It is important to develop relationships and to listen carefully to identify what really matters to the customer and oftentimes their family members. The team at East Hill recognizes that the community isn’t the best fit for everyone and yet they work hard to ensure everyone feels they have gotten something out of the experience. For example, the team recommends other senior living communities for people to explore once they get to know the customer well and it is determined that other options are needed. This is one small way to show how much the team cares about the person and they are not just a sale. Another way is to really learn about the customer and what matters the most to them making the experience all that more rewarding and richer. The backgrounds of those looking into senior living and their interests are inspiring and interesting and it is really enjoyable for the team at East Hill to make a connection with them. It goes far beyond a sale as friendships are truly formed from the process.

Meeting people from all over the state and often the country is quite an experience. The Sales Director at East Hill, Samantha Nook, recently shared an experience she had meeting a cookbook author, Betsy Jacobson. Betsy’s cookbook titled “The Abnormal Cookbook” for the kitchen phobic, the time impaired, the chronically ill who have a chronic lust for good food has been passed all around the community. The connection that Samantha has developed with Betsy goes far beyond some simple sales pitch. It is a meaningful connection that has developed between these two women. This is just one example of how the team tries to go above and beyond for seniors regardless of whether they ever move into the community or not.  According to the community’s Executive Director, Kelly Mazza, “Making connections that matter help our team to have a greater sense of purpose in our work and helps us to make a sincere difference for those in need of senior living.”

Naughty Acorn Squash Rings

1 acorn squash, about 1.5 lbs.
1/3 cup of maple syrup
2 tablespoons of bourbon or rum
Water
Salt to taste

Wash squash well. Dig a fork into squash on 2 sides and put in microwave for 10 minutes to make the squash easier to cut, Dry well. Trim off ends of squash and cut remainder horizontally into rings about 3/4″ thick (about 4 rings). Remove seeds and stringy stuff.

Put rings in a shallow baking pan and add enough water to come halfway up the sides of rings. Bake about 30 minutes in preheated 400 degree oven, turning once, until rings are barely tender. Pour off water and brush one side of each ring with mixture of maple syrup and bourbon or rum. Salt the ring and bake another five minutes. Turn rings and brush on the other side. Salt and cook another five minutes. You can even eat the skin of these if you like.
